8 WAYS TO BRING TERRACOTTA INTO YOUR HOME
Copper is one of those trends that just won’t go away. And with good reason: it’s rich and warm, and it adds soul and depth to everything from homes to restaurants and bars. Designers and stylists say it’s on the way out, which is a shame, but what is still current is that sense of warmth, and that appreciation for a richness of material that copper ushered in. It’s found a new form this year: earthy, pink-brown shades of terracotta and its golden counterpart, ochre.
For most of us, terracotta conjures up images of Under the Tuscan Sun and 1990s peachy-pink terraces strewn with clunky terracotta pots. But that’s not what the 2017 look is all about. Instead, it’s about using terracotta – both the colour and the material – playfully and sparingly throughout your space. This is the grown-up version of Millennial Pink, and we love it.
Team this colour with petrol blue and walnut wood for a look that feels cosy yet sophisticated. For example, you could paint the walls of a bedroom or living room in Farrow & Ball’s Drawing Room Blue, keeping the rest of your palette quite neutral: white and black will do nicely. For the final, striking touch, dot the space with carefully chosen pieces in shades of terracotta and ochre. Here’s how we’d bring it home this autumn.
